2027: INEC Plans Voting Centres for IDPs in Nine Plateau LGs

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is planning to establish voting centres for internally displaced persons in nine local government areas of Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move is aimed at ensuring that eligible internally displaced persons are not disenfranchised because of their displacement and can participate in the electoral process.

INEC said the proposed arrangement would cover IDPs in affected communities across the nine local government areas, with the commission working to identify suitable locations for the voting centres.

The development is part of efforts to improve access to voting and ensure that vulnerable populations are included in the 2027 elections.

Plateau State has experienced displacement linked to recurring security challenges, leaving many residents away from their original communities.

The planned voting centres are therefore expected to provide displaced eligible voters with an opportunity to exercise their civic rights without having to return to areas where insecurity may still pose a challenge.
