The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Yobe State has threatened legal action over alleged gaps in the communication of key information ahead of the state’s 2026 local government elections.
The party is demanding that the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission, YSIEC, explain when, how and through which official channels it communicated the election guidelines, timetable and other decisions to the ADC.
In a letter signed by its state chairman, Umar Alhaji, the party said the alleged failure to provide the information could affect its ability to participate fully in the election and meet important electoral deadlines.
The ADC argued that all political parties participating in the election should have equal and meaningful access to electoral information.
The party cited provisions of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, including Sections 7, 40 and 197, as well as relevant electoral laws and regulations, in support of its position.
It warned that if the alleged communication failure is found to have prejudiced its rights or participation, it would consider legal action and other lawful measures, including media engagement and peaceful protest.
The ADC, however, said its immediate demand was for YSIEC to provide an urgent explanation and correct any shortcomings that may have affected the party’s participation.
YSIEC had earlier announced that the Yobe local government elections would hold on September 26, 2026, with campaigns scheduled to run from September 18 to 25.
