A United Kingdom court has sentenced a Nigerian man, Obinwa Obichukwu, to two years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a woman twice at Euston railway station in London.
According to Punch Newspaper, the conviction followed an investigation by the British Transport Police (BTP), which established that the 45-year-old carried out the assaults at the busy railway station.
The court heard that Obichukwu approached the victim before subjecting her to unwanted sexual contact on two separate occasions. The incidents were reported to the police, prompting an investigation that led to his arrest and prosecution.
Following his conviction, the court imposed a two-year prison sentence. In addition to the jail term, Obichukwu was made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which places restrictions on his conduct after his release, and he will also remain on the UK’s Sex Offenders Register.
The British Transport Police welcomed the judgment, describing sexual offences on the transport network as serious crimes and reaffirming its commitment to protecting passengers and bringing offenders to justice. The force also encouraged victims of sexual harassment or assault to report such incidents promptly.
