The Kano State Fire Service has reported that five people lost their lives in 30 separate fire incidents recorded across the state in June 2026, with property worth over ₦120.4 million destroyed.
Despite the losses, the agency said its emergency response efforts helped prevent further destruction, as firefighters successfully rescued property estimated at about ₦481.8 million during various operations throughout the month.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, disclosed the figures while presenting the agency’s monthly activity report. He said the service responded to several emergencies, including seven rescue operations and one false alarm during the period under review.
Anas revealed that firefighters rescued three individuals from fire-related incidents, while 34 others were saved during different emergency situations, highlighting the agency’s role in protecting lives and property across the state.
Expressing concern over the continued occurrence of fire outbreaks, the director urged residents to take greater precautions, especially when using electrical appliances, cooking gas and other materials capable of triggering fires.
He also advised parents and guardians to closely monitor children and prevent them from engaging in risky activities around water bodies such as rivers and ponds, noting that increased awareness could help reduce avoidable accidents.
Anas assured residents that the fire service remained committed to providing swift emergency responses whenever needed. He called for greater public cooperation, urging residents to promptly report fire incidents and other emergencies to enable firefighters to act quickly.
