The Nigerian military has recorded a major breakthrough in its counter-insurgency campaign, with 76 fighters, including senior commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), surrendering to troops in the North-East following sustained military offensives.

The Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI, said the insurgents laid down their arms after weeks of coordinated air and ground operations backed by credible intelligence, which significantly weakened the group’s operational capabilities. Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the surrendered terrorists abandoned their enclaves due to relentless military pressure.

According to the military, the surrendered commanders, fighters and some of their family members are currently undergoing profiling, debriefing and other administrative procedures in line with established operational protocols.
