Akpabio Explains Why Opposition Lawmakers Are Defecting to APC

According to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, a sense of patriotism is the reason behind the recent defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Wednesday night, Akpabio said the defection wave demonstrates faith in President Bola Tinubu’s ability to lead.

Following a meeting between the Senate President and Senators Kaila Samaila of Bauchi North and Agom Jarigbe of Cross River North at the State House in Abuja, the remarks were made.

Jarigbe and Samaila defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

“They (Jarigbe and Samaila) are Mr. President’s children, and they are his fans,” Akpabio stated in an interview with State House reporters following the meeting. The president is the father of all political parties and the father of the country.

However, it is interesting to note that they joined the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senate on different political platforms. However, they felt it was more convenient to join in order to build Nigeria because of the President’s policies, which have improved the country’s economy, especially in terms of revenue generation.

“Theirs is nothing but patriotism. They are not interested in which political party is in power, but they are interested in who can run Nigeria, who can improve Nigeria, and who can put food on the tables of Nigerians.
