Anderson Akaliro, the Abia State House of Assembly representative for Umuahia North, has formally written to his constituents to explain his resignation from the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
In his letter, Akaliro stated that he was joining forces with State lead representative Alex Otti and his Labour Party, LP because of “visionary leadership”.
As the sole APC legislator in the Abia State House of Assembly, Akaliro urged his supporters to embrace his defection as a sign of his commitment to them for a better future rather than viewing it as a betrayal of their mandate.
“Throughout my stewardship, I was never invited to any official meeting or activity of the party in the state.
“Instead, recurring suspensions and counter-suspensions at the ward and local government levels confirmed the deep-rooted disunity,” he said.
He stated that his Umuahia North constituency stakeholders, political allies, and people had persuaded him to join the LP.
“I have made the decision to support the Labour Party and His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti’s progressive, people-focused, and visionary leadership.
“This decision is not driven by personal ambition but by the collective desire to reposition Umuahia North at the center of development-driven, accountable, and people-focused governance”, Akaliro stated.
