Tonye Cole, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Rivers State, has declared his intention to not join Rotomi Amaechi, the former minister of transportation, in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
At this time, he announced that he still planned to run for the state’s top seat in 2027.
Cole stated this in an interview, stressing that he has the goal to become state lead representative of Rivers State.
He signaled his resolve to finally secure the job after years of political involvement by framing his most recent bid as a third-time lucky attempt after failing to win the seat in his previous two attempts.
Cole contested the Rivers governorship twice in 2019 and 2023 but was unsuccessful on both occasions.
The APC chieftain talked about his friendship with Amaechi and said that the former governor of Rivers was crucial in bringing him into politics.
He pointed out that while Amaechi is now pursuing the presidency, he remains focused on Rivers state.
Cole added that he had no plans to follow Amaechi to the African Democratic Congress, or ADC, and that he is still dedicated to the APC.
“Nobody can take away the fact that he brought me into politics.
“I have always had a lot of respect for individuals like Rotimi Amaechi and others.
“I have consistently said he has a goal and ambition where he wants to go, and so do I. I have my own ambition and goals,” Cole remarked.
