Presidency Isn’t Hereditary, Tinubu Will Should Reapply In 2027 – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized a statement made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) asserting that there is “no vacancy” for the presidential position.

Recently, the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, informed party members that there would be “no vacancy in Aso Rock” in 2027.

In response, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi remarked that the statement was “disrespectful” and ignored the difficulties faced by Nigerians.

“We comprehend the APC’s fear and wish they could somehow evade the impending judgment at the ballot box. The very nature of periodic elections necessitates that every incumbent must seek to renew their mandate,” Abdullahi stated in a release late Wednesday.

“Thus, irrespective of the APC’s beliefs, there will indeed be a vacancy at the Presidential Villa in 2027. President Tinubu must reapply to the Nigerian populace and demonstrate to them why he should be permitted to continue in his role, despite his detrimental policies that have rendered life unbearable for many.”

The APC must reapply to the Nigerian people in 2027, declares “No Vacancy” Statement as Arrogant and Undemocratic.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to the recent remarks made by the new National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who claimed that there would be “no vacancy in Aso Rock” in 2027.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, characterized the comment as presumptuous and undemocratic, asserting that the Presidency of Nigeria is not a hereditary position, but rather a mandate that must be earned and renewed through performance and public trust.

The opposition party contended that the APC’s “no vacancy” declaration reveals an arrogant attitude that seems to disregard the rights of the Nigerian people to make their own choices. The ADC cautioned that the APC should refrain from making statements that could imply that citizens’ votes would not be valued.

The recent statement by the APC Chairman asserting that there is “no vacancy in Aso Rock” is both presumptuous and disrespectful to the Nigerian populace, who are weary of hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and unfulfilled promises. Consequently, they are eager to reclaim their future through the ballot box.

We comprehend the reasons behind APC’s apprehension and wish they could somehow evade the impending reckoning at the ballot box. The existence of periodic elections necessitates that every incumbent seeks to renew their mandate. Thus, irrespective of APC’s beliefs, there will indeed be a vacancy at the Presidential Villa in 2027.

President Tinubu must seek the approval of the Nigerian people once more, demonstrating to them why he deserves to continue in his role, despite his detrimental policies that have rendered life unbearable for many. In 2027, both APC and President Tinubu will be assessed based on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) related to youth employment, security of lives, hunger and poverty, electricity supply, and justice for all. No amount of propaganda can alter their evaluations in the eyes of the Nigerian people.

While the APC government and its media allies continue to praise themselves and bestow upon themselves accolades of excellence, the cost of food has soared beyond the means of the majority of Nigerians, an ever-increasing number of our communities are being overrun by bandits, and our Naira remains weakened and devalued.

This is why proclaiming “no vacancy” two years prior to an election is tantamount to spitting in the face of every Nigerian who still believes in their democratic power. It conveys the message that their votes are inconsequential.

It mocks the suffering of parents who cannot afford food, the graduates who are unable to secure employment, and the entrepreneurs whose businesses have failed through no fault of their own. Let it be clear, the APC will need to reapply for the position of leading this nation in 2027, and they do not have the authority to grade their own performance.
