The Nigerian military forces successfully thwarted an attempted incursion into Monguno town and the Bitta community in the Lake Chad region by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of numerous assailants, including a high-ranking commander, during operations conducted at midnight.
The Senior Quiad Commander, recognized as Ibn Khalid, was killed alongside a terrorist cameraman during the intense gunfight that erupted in the Bitta community when Nigerian Army troops confronted the terrorists while countering the assault around 2:30 am.
As reported by Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the theater Commander of the Northeast joint taskforce operation Hadin Kai, seventeen additional terrorists were eliminated in various locations throughout Sambisa, spanning Madagali LGA in Adamawa and Kaga in Borno.
A number of the terrorists managed to flee, sustaining injuries of varying severity.
Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam indicated that the troops, while tracking the retreating terrorists, discovered traces of blood along their escape routes.
Recovered items from the terrorists included 2 AK-47 magazines, 7.26 millimeter special ammunition, 1 PKT belt, a Rocket Propelled Grenade Bomb, and a camcorder.
Monguno Town serves as the administrative center of Northern Borno, located at the edge of the Lake Chad region. It functions as the headquarters for Sector 3 operations, Hadin Kai, and the Multinational Joint Task Force.
Despite the restoration of civil authorities in Monguno and the resumption of normal activities by residents, communities surrounding Lake Chad remain uninhabited, as they have yet to be rebuilt and restored.
