The 2023 presidential candidate for the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has once again expressed his disapproval of the formation of the opposition coalition, cautioning that numerous members lack the moral integrity necessary to govern the nation.
On Wednesday, Sowore characterized the coalition as consisting of individuals whose past actions made it impossible for him to politically associate with them.
Peter Obi, Rauf Aregbesola, David Mark, Ralph Nwosu, and Atiku Abubakar were present at the coalition meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
“For me, the matter of a coalition is personal. To a certain degree, it pertains to broader issues of governance and politics. However, there are simply too many individuals within the coalition you are referring to that I cannot engage with without risking a departure from my principles,” he stated.
Sowore accused several members of the coalition of having betrayed the Nigerian populace, labeling them as individuals who have committed acts deemed as evil and who lack conscience, character, and integrity.
“No set of conditions can alter their behavior or cleanse their actions. These are typically individuals whose lifestyle is characterized by malevolence, wrongdoing, corruption, deceiving the public, and selfishness,” he continued.
He emphasized that his stance is not merely based on subjective views but is supported by documented evidence regarding the behavior and lifestyle of those involved.
“I have recorded their lifestyle, chronicled their methods, and assessed their capabilities.
“I have reached the conclusion, grounded in empirical evidence, that any nation transitioning from the current ruling party to entrust its future to members of the coalition you are mentioning is merely shifting from one form of destruction to another. There is no other way to articulate it,” Sowore asserted.
He contended that while there are individuals within Nigeria’s political sphere who genuinely aspire to rescue the country, others in both the ruling party and the opposition are merely preparing to further exploit the Nigerian people.
These individuals have all held positions of power at various times; you are familiar with their narratives. We have recorded it.
“The only stipulations I have are those that will enable me to assist the Nigerian populace, those of us who desire the nation to be rescued from both the current rulers and those who intend to exploit Nigerians,” he remarked.
The opposition coalition has selected the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political party in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
This coalition includes a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar; the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; a former governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola; a former governor of Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai; and a former president of the senate, David Mark, among others.
