Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has stated that his former principal and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar may not have been meant to become the President of Nigeria.
“There is my former principal who believes that he is going to win,” Bwala remarked on a news source on Monday, downplaying the prospects of Atiku and other opposition coalition leaders like Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi in their efforts to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“In all honesty, I have shared my view that it may never have been God’s plan for him to be president in Nigeria, as he has done everything necessary to achieve that goal yet did not secure the presidency.
“2023 represented the greatest opportunity for my former principal Atiku Abubakar. He will not have such a privilege again,” he added.
Interestingly, Bwala served as a spokesperson for Atiku’s campaign during the 2023 election but shifted his allegiance to Tinubu several months ago.
The opposition leaders united last week to endorse the African Democratic Party (ADC) as their coalition platform, aiming to oust Tinubu, whom they claim has regressed the country from the Aso Villa.
However, Bwala dismissed any potential threat from them, asserting that they have failed to present alternative policies that could persuade Nigerians to support them.
“What I still find intriguing is that this coalition of displaced politicians has not managed to muster the courage to propose alternative facts, policies, or programs.
“Throughout the interview you conducted with Peter Obi, I observed that he has not effectively countered or disagreed with the policies we are implementing,” he stated.
Further downplaying the opposition leaders’ threat to Tinubu’s presidency, Bwala predicted that the newly formed coalition would not endure beyond six months.
He indicated that the competition for the flagbearer position under the newly adopted ADC would fragment the coalition, ultimately simplifying matters for Tinubu in 2027.
“All this notion of coalition is merely fantasy; we are all aware that when such a phenomenon arises, we can expect a good two to three weeks filled with romanticized notions of ‘we have ideas, we can achieve this’.
“However, one individual, named Datti (Baba-Ahmed), has already perceived the impending challenges they face. He remarked that the primary issue with this coalition will be determining who will assume the presidency, as currently, I quote him, ‘everyone aspires to be the president’.
“After a month of deliberation, I assure you on my own honor, that within the next six months, the topic of this coalition will no longer be relevant; they will disband,” Bwala stated.
