There has been a great deal of concern over the murder of two young men from Kano State in Makurdi, Benue State. State lead representative Abba Yusuf has called the crime “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable.”

According to reports, unidentified attackers attacked and killed Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, the sons of prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Monday.

Official reports state that they lived in peace in the region and were attacked without cause.

Governor Yusuf conveyed his deep sorrow over the loss in a statement issued on Tuesday by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson.

“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of two promising sons of Kano,” the state lead representative declared. “They were innocent, peace-loving citizens whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right to live and work in any part of Nigeria.”

The governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to pursue justice for the victims and their families, calling the crime “an affront to the nation’s unity and peace.”

Until justice is done, this government will not stop working. As we collaborate closely with all tiers of security services and the Benue State Government to apprehend the killers, we urge composure and restraint,” he stated.

The governor himself accompanied a team from Kano, which included the deceased’s family, to the National Mosque in Abuja on Tuesday for the victims’ burial prayers.

People all around the nation have expressed condolences for the unfortunate event, especially in light of the victims’ relationship to Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil. “This loss is not simply a tragedy to the families affected, but to Kano State and the entire nation,” said Governor Yusuf, who offered his condolences to the bereaved professor.

The government of Kano State has advised its people to avoid from taking retaliatory action and has called for peace.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us. Every citizen has the right to live, move, and thrive in any part of this country without fear of discrimination or violence,” Yusuf continued.

In addition, he reaffirmed his government’s dedication to defending the rights and lives of all Kano indigenous people, both inside and outside the state, and emphasized continued efforts to work with security forces to identify the murders’ motivation.
