The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled primaries for Saturday to select candidates for the Local Government election on July 12. Mr. Hakeem Olalemi, the State PDP Vice Chairman (Central), shared this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.
He mentioned that the primaries will take place at various council areas, with candidates being chosen by consensus. Olalemi stated, ‘Our esteemed party, PDP, will conduct its primaries for the upcoming Local Government election in Lagos State at the local government secretariats on Saturday, May 17. Chairmanship and councillorship candidates will be selected through consensus.’ He expressed confidence in the PDP’s prospects in the council elections, asserting, ‘We are optimistic about our chances in the next local government election and hope for a credible process.
‘ He acknowledged the influence of the ruling party over the state electoral commission but affirmed their readiness to compete with the APC. ‘With God’s grace, we will succeed. We are prepared for the election in every aspect.’ In a separate interview, Lagos State PDP Chairman Mr. Phillips Aivoji also conveyed his belief in the party’s potential success. ‘We are in this to win. We will continue to rally support from the public to vote for PDP. I am confident that our chances are strong in certain areas, while we will face tough competition in others,’ Aivoji remarked.
He assured residents that they would experience liberation and benefit from people-centered leadership and initiatives if they elect the PDP to govern the councils. ‘Lagos residents will gain significantly with PDP, including good governance and a purposeful administration. The people’s needs will be our top priority if PDP is elected.’
