The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has announced that Nigeria is set to receive telecommunications equipment and fibre optic infrastructure valued at $3 billion by June 2025.
Speaking during a panel session at the Nigeria Development Update (NDU) hosted by the World Bank, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, announced that telecommunications equipment valued at $1 billion is expected to arrive in Nigeria by mid-2025.
He further disclosed that an additional $2 billion worth of fibre optic cables will soon be delivered, aimed at strengthening the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.
According to Tijani, the initiative is designed to significantly improve communication services nationwide and close the existing connectivity gap. He also revealed plans to launch a pilot phase that will target over 20 million Nigerians who currently lack access to any form of telecommunications.
The $3 billion investment is a result of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government, in partnership with the World Bank, to secure long-term financing for broadband expansion. The project aims to extend telecommunications access to unserved and underserved areas, especially rural communities.
This initiative supports the broader objectives of Nigeria’s digital economy agenda, which focuses on inclusive access to technology and connectivity for all citizens.
