Asue Ighodalo, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2025 Edo Governorship election, called upon party members and supporters on Thursday to remain resilient and focused in the face of the challenges the party is currently facing.
Ighodalo made this appeal during a stakeholders meeting in Benin, where he addressed a large gathering of party loyalists. He assured that those who contributed to the party’s efforts during the election would be duly recognized and rewarded, urging for their ongoing support for the PDP. ‘We will undertake a restructuring process. We will enhance and redirect the party’s focus. Those who demonstrate loyalty through their work for the party will receive appropriate rewards.
The era when individuals who did not contribute were rewarded is over,’ Ighodalo stated. He emphasized the importance of unity among all PDP members and leaders in Edo, expressing gratitude for their support since the election. ‘This family is truly exceptional. I have not had the chance to publicly express my thanks to everyone since the election. Despite the intimidation and financial challenges we faced, we emerged victorious in that election. I assure you, with God’s grace, we will continue to uphold our promises to the people of Edo State.
Many are eager for updates regarding the court case; we have filed an appeal. Our legal team is diligently working on our behalf, and I have complete trust in them as we prepare our case for the Court of Appeal. If necessary, we will escalate our case to the Supreme Court. God is just, so let us remain steadfast. We, the PDP members in Edo State, along with the citizens from all levels, know that God hears our pleas.’ Among the PDP leaders present at the stakeholders meeting were Chief Tom Ikimi, a former governor of Edo State, and Chief Lucky Igbinedion, a former deputy governor of Edo State.
