Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has expressed his congratulations to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, following their reported alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Nneamaka Okafor, the Minister characterized their decision as both bold and timely. Lokpobiri emphasized that this move signifies a broader acknowledgment of the increasing national support for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership under the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.
He remarked that the defection is not merely a symbolic political act, but rather a demonstration of the influence of the current administration’s policies across different political affiliations. ‘The choice made by Governor Oborevwori and Dr. Okowa transcends mere political symbolism; it is a testament to the extensive impact of President Tinubu’s governance,’ Lokpobiri stated. ‘It indicates that Nigerians, regardless of party affiliation, are recognizing the results-oriented leadership that is transforming our nation.’
The Minister also took this opportunity to urge other political leaders, particularly in the South-South region, to embrace a vision for national development that goes beyond partisan boundaries. ‘I urge other principled leaders, especially in the South-South, to rise above party interests and collaborate with the President in achieving sustainable development for our citizens,’ he added.
Lokpobiri reiterated his confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, viewing the recent political shift as a sign of an emerging consensus for unity and economic advancement. If confirmed, this development would represent a notable change in Delta State’s political dynamics, where both individuals have been significant figures within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
