The political dynamics within the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took an unexpected turn yesterday when party member and current lawmaker, Francis Waive, urged his party to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as their exclusive candidate for the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election.
In a discussion with journalists, Waive based his recommendation on the governor’s strong rapport with President Bola Tinubu, which he argued reflects a profound grasp of governance. He further praised the governor’s achievements, asserting that his community-focused initiatives and high-quality projects have impressed all residents of Delta State.
He said, “It will be impossible for any other candidate to beat Oborevwori in 2027,” adding that his coming to APC is a valuable addition and will bring an immediate end to the crisis engulfing the party in the state.
“I can see Oborevwori and Tinubu coasting to victory on the APC ticket. This synergy is what APC in Delta needs at this moment. Not only will this bring peace to the party, it will make victory very certain.”
The legislator emphasized that the principle of rotating the governorship among the three senatorial districts of Delta is advantageous for Oborevwori, who would be completing just one additional term. He urged all residents of Delta to back this initiative, stressing that it would promote party cohesion and contribute to the state’s progress.
