APC Leader Knocks Oborevwori Over Stance On Emergency Rule In Rivers

A notable figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Evance Ivwurie, has expressed his disapproval of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for publicly criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s policies while covertly attempting to align himself with the APC.

Ivwurie, who previously served as a member of the Delta State House of Assembly and as Commissioner for Special Duties, accused Oborevwori of exhibiting hypocrisy and double standards. He emphasized that while the governor openly denounces the President, he is simultaneously making efforts to join the APC behind the scenes.

He remarked that the governor’s behavior demonstrates a concerning level of desperation and a significant lack of integrity.

The APC leader cautioned Oborevwori against involving the state in an unwarranted conflict with the Federal Government, asserting that the governor’s opposition to the recent state of emergency declared in Rivers State could impede development in Delta.

Ivwurie contended that Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers is a crucial step towards restoring peace, order, and effective governance in the beleaguered state.

He pointed out that the ongoing crisis in Rivers has severely disrupted governance and posed security threats, thereby necessitating the President’s intervention.

“The President’s declaration has saved Rivers from collapse and destruction amid the intense power struggle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly,” Ivwurie added.

He compared Tinubu’s leadership to that of former U.S. President Harry Truman, highlighting that history would acknowledge Tinubu for placing national stability above political interests.

Referencing Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution, Ivwurie asserted that Tinubu operated within his constitutional rights to protect lives and reestablish order.

He condemned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum for their opposition to this initiative and for pursuing legal action against the President. He specifically criticized Oborevwori for supporting this position, asserting that: “It is utterly irresponsible for the inept Oborevwori to embroil Delta State in a frivolous lawsuit challenging a constitutional provision that empowers the President to act in times of crisis.”
