Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a renewed appeal for a unified political coalition focused on ousting President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Atiku, who ran for president in 2023 as a candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but was unsuccessful, made this statement during an event held in his recognition on Tuesday in Yola, Adamawa State.
Speaking to a gathering of supporters, he underscored the critical need to restore Nigeria’s trajectory towards advancement through collaborative efforts.
“The future of our nation depends on our ability to unite and take decisive steps toward real change,” Atiku declared. “Nigeria deserves better leadership—one that is accountable, inclusive, and focused on the people’s needs rather than political elites,” Atiku said.
The former vice president criticized the current government’s approach to governance, security, and economic issues, contending that its policies have exacerbated the nation’s difficulties. He emphasized the necessity for Nigerians to unite behind a new initiative aimed at restoring hope and achieving effective governance.
Atiku also praised Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo for his role in organizing the event, encouraging him and other political figures to enhance their efforts in rallying support in preparation for the upcoming election cycle.
In his address, Senator Abbo reiterated his commitment to Atiku and the movement, highlighting that the initiative goes beyond individual aspirations. “This is about saving Nigeria from ineffective leadership and ensuring that the people’s voice is heard,” Abbo remarked.
As the event came to a close, Atiku’s supporters demonstrated a renewed resolve to advance the movement, laying the groundwork for what could be a significant political contest in 2027.
