Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has criticized the current Governor, Uba Sani, for instructing the arrest of his former aide and ex-commissioner, Jafaru Sani, during his tenure.
It is important to note that Jafaru Sani was nominated by el-Rufai to succeed him as a minister in 2023 after the Senate delayed his confirmation along with two others due to security concerns raised by the Department of State Services (DSS).
However, Uba Sani reportedly opposed Jafaru Sani’s nomination, as asserted by his predecessor.
In a recent post on X, el-Rufai stated: “Mallam Jafaru Sani has been taken in Kaduna by a group associated with Uba Sani, masquerading as police officers.
“Jafaru was placed in prison custody by a magistrate without any initial police report or formal charges from the state Ministry of Justice.
“Upon investigation, we discovered that Jafaru is facing allegations of money laundering, a federal crime that neither the state judiciary nor the police have the authority to investigate or adjudicate.
“Jafaru’s true offense is his departure from the APC to join the SDP. This approach mirrors the tactics used against another associate, Bashir Saidu, who was abducted on December 31, 2024, and held for 50 days before being granted bail,” he remarked.
The former governor further expressed: “The troubling involvement of certain subservient and compromised magistrates and High Court judges within the Kaduna State judiciary is a significant concern for us. We are observing closely, as no situation is permanent, and accountability for all actions and decisions will eventually be demanded.”
