The Imo State Police Command has affirmed an explosion that happened last Sunday in Umuneke Community, Mbieri, within the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, expressed that despite the fact there were no casualties, an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion.
As per him, the bomb blast affected a newly completed building that had not yet been occupied.
Okoye further uncovered that the Deputy Commissioner of Police, alongside the command’s Anti-Bomb Squad, had visited the scene to ensure the area was cleared of any leftover explosives.
He consoled the community that the command was focused on uncovering the root cause of the incident and bringing any responsible parties to justice. Residents were additionally encouraged to go about their lawful activities without fear, as the police are working determinedly to keep up with security.
In the meantime, local villagers reported that the affected building had recently been completed by a couple who wanted to move in by February. They related hearing an uproarious blast in the middle of the night, and upon venturing out hours later, found that the house had been decreased to rubble.
