Police agents have killed three suspected kidnappers in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State and safeguarded a kidnap victim.
The operation followed a misery call received by Vandiekya Police Divisional Headquarters concerning the kidnap of one Tor Gajir by shooters in the area.
Revealing this in a statement on Thursday, Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the rescue efforts occurred on December 31, 2024.
“Upon receipt of this information, investigation was swiftly escalated, and the police operatives followed the trail to one Desmond Ahar. The suspect was accosted, and subsequent interrogation revealed the suspect was part of the kidnappers,” he said.
“The suspect, Desmond Ahar, then, at that point, led the operatives to where the victim was being kept at Adikpo, Benue State.
“Upon landing at the kidnappers’ den, the kidnappers detected the police operatives and promptly engaged them in a gun duel. In the ensuing confrontation, officers were able to kill three of the suspects, while others escaped with bullet wounds.”
The Force representative noted that the casualty was rescued unhurt and immediately given medical attention to assess any physical or psychological effect.
He expressed that the outcome of the operation additionally led to the recuperation of two AK-47 and six loaded magazines, with several live ammunition, adding that efforts are ongoing to capture the fleeing member of the gang and recuperate other arms.

On his part, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, recognized the operatives for the successes recorded explicitly in the country.
He charged them to support the tempo to accomplish excellence in internal security and safety in Nigeria, saying the incidents highlight the bravery and commitment of cops to keep communities safe.
The IGP urged members of the community to stay cautious and volunteer to play their role towards guaranteeing public safety and national security.
