Oyo State Government has launched a probe into a rush that happened at a carnival in Ibadan, the state capital.
Many children were said to have passed on in the process with Lead representative Seyi Makinde sympathizing with the parents who have lost their kids.
The Lead Representative in a personal message on his social media handle on Wednesday said his administration has arrested the coordinators of the program and will ensure that those responsible are indicted.
“While investigations are progressing, the primary coordinators of the occasion that led to this stampede have been taken into custody,” Makinde said.
“I want to promise our people that anyone directly or somewhat involved in this fiasco will be held accountable. Please try to avoid panicking as the security agencies investigate this appalling incident.
“Our hearts remain with the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
Albeit the exact number of people is yet to be ascertained, viral videos showed some children impacted by the incident that happened in the Bashorun area of Ibadan on Wednesday.
He depicted the incident as a miserable day for the Oyo State Government and the people of the South-Western state.
The Lead Representative said his administration will do whatever it takes to ensure no further deaths are recorded by deploying security agents to restore order at the scene.
“Recently, an incident occurred in Islamic High School Basorun, the venue of an event coordinated for families. Unfortunately, a stampede at the venue has prompted numerous deficiency of lives and injuries.
“This is a very sad day for us here in Oyo State. We sympathise with the parents whose euphoria has unexpectedly been turned to mourning due to these deaths,” Makinde expressed.
He additionally underscored that medical personnel and ambulances were deployed, adding that the state government is also taking all realistic measures to ensure that the venue is secured.
