Akwa Ibom Passes Law Against Uncontrolled Waste Dumping

Akwa Ibom State Chief Executive has declared plans to issue an executive order providing legal backing for the arraignment of anyone caught in the act of indiscriminate refuse disposal in the state.

The State Chief Executive, Pastor Umo Eno, reported this at the official launch of newly acquired gear for the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) in Itu LGA.

Akwa Ibom state is known as a clean state. This is especially clear in the spotless environment across the state capital as well as other parts of the state.

In his determination to maintain this status, Eno has set up a waste management equipment to support the ideal and successful disposal of refuse in the state.

Disclosing the waste management equipment, the state Chief Executive disapproved of the act of indiscriminate refuse disposal taking place in certain parts of the state, citing that Akwa Ibom people are known for their tidiness and it should remain so.

He called for a deliberate effort to guarantee a tidy state and charged local government councils to line up with the Waste Management Agency in the execution of their duties, saying that awards will be given to the tidiest LGA by May 29, 2025.

The state Chief Executive likewise ceases the opportunity to make professions on a few significant issues in the state.

He reassured the people of continuous job execution at various project sites and encouraged the youths to embrace the pattern by availing themselves of various jobs that will be executed during and after the celebration season.

Prior to this, the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Prince Ikim complimented the vision of the Chief Executive in keeping a perfect state through the acquisition of the equipment and pledged his commitment to driving the vision of the Lead Representative to completion.

The National Coordinator, Clean Up Nigeria Limited, Mr. Ene Baba-Owo, lauded the vision of the Chief Executive in maintaining a tidy environment and encouraged the agency not to back down in driving the vision of the Lead Representative.

The newly purchased equipment included: 5 units of waste compacting trucks, 4 units of waste swing arm trucks, 1 unit of pull-up waste truck with crane mechanism, 50 units 6,000 litres dumpsters and 6 units of 12, 000 litres dumpsters
