Former spokesman for the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign council, Kenneth Okonkwo, has called on President Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi, and Atiku Abubakar to step aside and not run in the 2027 political race.
Okonkwo referred to their failure to follow through on their commitments and unite the opposition as reasons behind his position.
During a televised interview, Okonkwo underscored the need for new faces in politics, expressing that the current leaders have disappointed Nigerians.
He additionally condemned the opposition for their inability to team up and forge alliances, highlighting the botched opportunity to produce the speaker and vice speaker in the Green Chamber.
Okonkwo’s remarks come as Nigerians look towards the 2027 political race, looking for change and viable leadership.
His call for new faces in politics may resound with those looking for a break from the norm.
As indicated by Okonkwo: “I completely agree with you that we need new faces, 100%, and that was why I have said that Atiku, Peter Obi, and Tinubu should step aside.
“The reason is that the ruling party has failed, and the opposition has failed. Are you aware that in the House of Representatives, you have more opposition members than the ruling class?
“I’m saying you don’t just finish an election, and the first thing you start talking about is the next election. You consolidate and form alliances amongst yourselves to work together as the opposition.
“If all the opposition members in the House of Representatives had come together, they would have produced the speaker and the vice.”
