PDP Chieftain Rejects APC Campaign Role, Declares Support For Wike’s Tinubu Bid

A former Plateau State Commissioner for Works, Aminu Zang, has rejected his inclusion in the All Progressives Congress Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council, insisting that he remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Zang said his name was added to the APC campaign council without his knowledge or consent, stressing that he could not belong to the PDP while simultaneously serving in the campaign structure of another political party.

His name appeared as number 254 on the published list of the APC Campaign Council’s Central Planning Committee in Plateau State.

In a statement titled, “Clarification on My Inclusion in the 2027 Plateau State Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council – Central Planning Committee,” the former commissioner described himself as an unrepentant member of the PDP under the Rainbow Coalition.

Speaking during a telephone interview with PUNCH, Zang said he was not consulted before his appointment was announced.

“They didn’t consult me. I’m not angry, so to speak. But, if you read the statement that I issued, I thanked those who felt that I was worthy of inclusion in the campaign council list,” he said.

He added, “Unfortunately for them, I am a bona fide member of the PDP. So, I cannot belong to the PDP and now be in the APC campaign council team. I cannot.”

However, Zang clarified that his political position ahead of the 2027 general elections was not entirely opposed to the APC presidential campaign, as he expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“I am supporting Wike’s position that Tinubu returns, but for the governor, no way. I’m in the PDP,” he stated.

He also declared support for the PDP governorship candidate in Plateau State, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, saying the party had already presented its candidate for the election.

According to him, the PDP was yet to constitute its campaign council, although discussions were ongoing.

Zang called on political stakeholders to approach the 2027 electoral process with maturity, mutual respect and a commitment to peaceful political engagement.

He urged party members, supporters and the public to embrace tolerance, civility and political decorum ahead of the elections.
