2027: PDP Warns Of Tougher Penalties For Members Backing Tinubu

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) issued a warning on Friday to party members who are showing support for President Bola Tinubu, urging them to reconsider their positions or risk facing more severe penalties.
It condemned the actions of these members, labeling them as anti-party and contrary to the constitution of the opposition party.

“In light of the above and the urgent need to protect and maintain the integrity of our Party and its electoral prospects, the NWC, in accordance with Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution, hereby delivers a stern reprimand against such anti-party conduct and advises those involved to reconsider their actions or face more stringent penalties as outlined in the PDP Constitution,” stated the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in an official statement.

The NWC expressed its disappointment regarding the ongoing public media statements made by certain prominent members against the PDP, whose actions and comments, including their expressed support and readiness to assist the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, are seen as violations of the PDP constitution (as amended in 2017), posing a significant threat to the stability and continuity of our party.
“Specifically, Section 10 (6) of the PDP constitution states that ‘No member of the party shall align with other parties or groups to undermine the party or any of its elected government.’
“Such anti-party actions have continued to adversely affect the PDP, resulting in division, discontent, and a significant loss of members, which could jeopardize our party’s electoral success if not promptly addressed,” the statement indicated.
The NWC, nonetheless, encouraged its members to remain loyal and dedicated.

The request also urged them to persist in their diligent efforts towards the effective organization of the PDP National Convention, which is set to take place on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

In the midst of the ongoing turmoil within the PDP, several notable party members have expressed their support for the President’s re-election campaign.

On July 28, 2025, Ayodele Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, publicly declared his endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term in office.

Fayose, a prominent figure within the PDP, also expressed his support for the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji of the APC, along with his deputy, advocating for their re-election during an APC gathering at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti.

“I wish to join all well-meaning Nigerians, especially the leaders and followers of Ekiti, in publicly endorsing without hesitation, the President and Commander of the Armed Forces, President Bola Tinubu, for a second term, as well as endorsing our Governor, Abayomi Oyebanji, and his deputy for another term,” stated the former PDP governor.

Just five days prior, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, along with the PDP in the state, expressed their support for Tinubu’s re-election campaign in 2027.
