Gunmen kidnapped at least 15 travelers in Benue State’s Gwer West Local Government Area on Thursday. According to information obtained, the victims were abducted near the Adoka-Naka Road.
Yakubu Onu, the secretary of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers and the head of the High Level Unit, verified the occurrence in an interview with reporters while bemoaning the hardships faced by the transporters that use that route.
According to Onu, two vehicles conveying the travellers were involved in the incident.
He said, “The first vehicle carried nine passengers from High Level Motor Park in Makurdi enroute Lokoja through Naka-Adoka Road which connects Ankpa in Kogi State, before six, out of the nine passengers, were abducted and taken to the bush.
With eight people on board, the second truck was traveling to Makurdi from Ankpa in Kogi via the same route when it collided with the kidnappers, who also took them hostage at the same location close to Naka town in Gwer West.
We have not heard back from the driver or the three passengers who were saved, despite the fact that they reported to the Naka police station and were asked to continue their journey we have yet to yet receive additional information from those coming from Ankpa in Kogi State,” Onu continued.
His Royal Highness Daniel Abomtse, the Ter Tyorshin in Gwer West, also attested to the fact that two commercial trucks were taken over and their occupants kidnapped on Naka/Adoka Road.
He said that the incident occurred about three kilometers from Naka town and said he will obtain further information later.
A Sharon bus and a picnic bus were the two vehicles involved. The police just released the passengers that were not taken away,” he stated.
Nevertheless, the Benue State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, has not yet verified the abduction’s specifics.
