Babagana Zulum, the State lead representative of Borno State, has given ₦300 million to the victims of the recent flood calamity in Niger State’s Mokwa Local Government Area.
On Tuesday, Zulum made the announcement while leading a team from Borno State to Government House in Minna to offer condolences to the government and people of Niger State for the tragic flood that killed more than 200 people and left thousands more homeless in the North-Central state.
According to him, the donation was made to help and supplement the Niger State Government’s response to the tragedy, which devastated homes, farms, and other sources of income in addition to taking lives.
“It is time for subnational governments to work collectively to mitigate the impact of climate change, which is contributing to these disasters,” Zulum said.
In addition, he called on the federal government to set up a thorough system to deal with the ongoing problem of flooding and other climate-related problems.
Umaru Bago, the State lead representative of Niger State, responded by expressing his sincere gratitude to Zulum for the visit and the kind donation, calling it a timely act that truly exemplified brotherhood and solidarity.
Bago praised Zulum’s dedication, fortitude, and compassion, saying that they continue to inspire future leaders. He also noted the shared history and ideals of the states of Borno and Niger.
He gave his brother governor his word that the money would be used appropriately to promote continued advocacy and resettlement initiatives as well as to offer aid to the impacted areas.
In order to stop future incidents, he also emphasized how crucial it is to educate locals about the risks of residing near coastal and flood-prone areas.
