The All Progressives Congress, Rivers State chapter, is actively seeking to bring Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, into its ranks, in anticipation of the upcoming reinstatement ceremony.
“If I were the governor of Rivers State, upon my return on Thursday, I would declare my defection to the All Progressives Congress.
“I believe the governor should align himself with the APC, and we would warmly welcome him into our party,” Nwauju expressed.
When questioned whether Fubara would assume the role of leader of the Rivers APC if he joined the party, Nwauju confirmed positively.
He explained that according to the APC’s convention, Fubara would automatically be designated as the leader of the party upon his joining.
“According to our party’s convention, if he becomes a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he will be recognized as the leader of the party,” Nwauju remarked.
He also provided his perspective on the administration of the Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd.), over the past six months.
He noted that the APC in Rivers State has not called for an investigation into Ibas.
“The APC has not formally requested that Ibas account for his performance over the last six months.
“The budget approval he received was granted by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. There exists a committee from the House of Representatives that is overseeing the emergency period.
“I anticipate that the committee will conduct thorough due diligence, produce a report, and inform Nigerians of their findings. This is one of their fundamental responsibilities in the realm of legislation and lawmaking,” he stated.
President Bola Tinubu and the suspended Fubara are expected to return to the country on Tuesday, in preparation for Rivers’ transition back to democratic governance on Thursday.
Tinubu is making his way back to Abuja after shortening his vacation in France, while Fubara is also expected to return from London. Their arrivals coincide with the Rivers State Administrator ramping up efforts to transfer power, as a series of transition activities signal the conclusion of the emergency rule in the state.
President Tinubu, who left Nigeria on September 4 for his yearly holiday in France and the United Kingdom, was originally scheduled to be away for 10 working days (until September 10) but ended his break earlier than planned.
