Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination for the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.
Ukachukwu garnered 1,455 votes during a night-long contest that concluded at 4:19 am on Sunday. His nearest competitor, Valentine Ozigbo, received only 67 votes, while Johnbosco Onunkwo obtained 26 votes, and Edozie Madu received 8 votes. Additionally, 27 votes were deemed invalid.
The announcement of the results was made by the APC returning officer, Bassey Otu, who is also the Governor of Cross River State. He referred to Ukachukwu as “the lion of APC in Anambra State.”
Otu stated, “By the authority vested in me as the chief returning officer, I hereby declare him the winner of the APC primaries in Anambra State.”
In his acceptance speech, Ukachukwu expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for providing the APC in Anambra with a voting platform, which he noted was unprecedented in the state’s history as it did not involve writing results.
Ukachukwu emphasized the importance of party unity in preparation for the general election on November 8, where he will face off against the incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
“This is not merely a journey; it marks the beginning of our journey. We must unite as one family for this endeavor. Challenging the incumbent will not be easy, but with a united front, everything is achievable with divine assistance,” Ukachukwu remarked.
“We need to come together and ensure that Anambra is delivered to the APC on November 8, and I assure you that I will not let you down.”
