President Bola Tinubu has expressed his appreciation to the National Assembly for what he referred to as its “decisive and patriotic ratification of the state of emergency proclamation in Rivers State.”
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President characterized this action as “a crucial step towards restoring stability following a prolonged political crisis that hindered governance in the state and threatened national economic security for over 15 months.”
The President specifically praised the leadership of the National Assembly for placing the security and welfare of the people of Rivers State above partisan interests and other factors.
He also recognized the lawmakers for their thorough examination of classified security briefings, highlighting the pressing need for intervention to avert further escalation.
The President stated that the six-month emergency would empower the newly appointed Sole Administrator to stabilize Rivers State, rectify systemic failures, and promote dialogue among conflicting parties.
Additionally, he reiterated his administration’s dedication to enhancing collaboration with the National Assembly to foster peace, economic resilience, and equitable development throughout Nigeria. He expressed gratitude to all Nigerians for their understanding and urged all stakeholders to support the restoration of peace in Rivers State.
