The Lagos State House of Assembly has instructed its officials to present valid identity cards upon entering the premises, flagging a transition to tighten security at the complex.
The development comes right after continuous debates following the indictment of the speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
A visit to the Assembly complex on Monday revealed that although there is currently calm in the area as plenary resumes today, a notification to staff endorsed by Omotayo Adekemi for the Ag. Representative of the House, Taiwo Ottun expressed that, “with respect to the executive’s mandates, all staff individuals and administrative associates should introduce substantial character cards to get to the House premises.
Ottun stressed that entry will be denied to anybody without a valid identity card.
He said the Lagos State Police Command has additionally vowed to keep everything under control in the state regardless of what unfolds at the gathering.
The new directive is coming two days after Obasa broke his silence, demanding that he stayed the speaker until the fair treatment was followed.
Obasa was eliminated by the majority of House members on January 13, 2025, following allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation. He was thusly supplanted by the Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
Meanwhile, members of the Lagos State House are expected to hold a plenary session Monday.
Today’s plenary will be the third session presided over by Meranda since Obasa’s removal, with the former speaker absent at the last two sittings.
