The current National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagun, has described the closure of the party’s office by the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) as an extreme act of irresponsibility.
Damagum made this statement on Monday while speaking to the audience after the important meeting of the national caucus of the opposition party was adjourned.
“As you can see, we have adjourned our meeting for today until tomorrow (Tuesday) by 10am. We will address you properly by the time we conclude our meeting tomorrow,” Damagun said.
“I know you are also aware that our office in Abuja has been sealed. This is the height of irresponsibility from this government.”
The PDP caucus convened at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, in preparation for the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting set for Tuesday.
This meeting was held in Asokoro after the FCTA sealed the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, due to outstanding ground rent payments.
Damagum presided over Monday’s meeting, accompanied by members of the National Working Committee (NWC). In attendance were eight of the party’s ten governors, including those from Bauchi State (the host), Plateau, Osun, Oyo, Enugu, Taraba, Zamfara, and Adamawa.
However, the governors of Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states were conspicuously absent. Other notable attendees included the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara; former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana; former Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu; former Senate President and chairman of the party’s NEC Reconciliation Committee, Senator Bukola Saraki; and Senator Ben Obi, among others.
