According to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, it has more than 800,000 members.
At a press conference in Port Harcourt on Friday, Luckyman Egila, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, revealed this.
Egila described the ADC as “a beautiful bride”, noting that notable political figures, including two former governors and two senators, had officially joined and obtained their membership cards.
He added that the new members were Senator Lee Maeba, former Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, former Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia, and Senator Andrew Uchendu, who is currently the Vice Chairman of the ADC, South-South.
According to Egila, “These persons have left their former parties, and they are now full members of the ADC”.
And you can only become a member of a party when you have registered with that party and issued with a membership card. So all of them are now full members of the ADC.
Egila also listed former Transport Minister Abiye Sekibo and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Austin Okpara as party members.
He said he was optimistic that more powerful people from other political parties would soon join.
Regarding the party’s reach, Egila said that prior to its recent growth, the ADC had established structures in every community and local government area in the state.
“We have grown from where we were, and as of today, we have over 800,000 members in Rivers State, and the number is growing by the day,” he said.
The party has previously participated in politics before the alliance, he continued, having run in the 2023 elections.
Egila dismissed the idea of internal disputes, saying, “We are one of the parties that Rivers people sorted for and voted for in 2023.
The African Democratic Congress is united, and I assure you there is no crisis in our party.
We are a party that has integrity and we don’t tolerate any form of disrespect or any act that will bring the party to disrepute.
