Reasons For Wike To Resign From PDP – PDP (CoP)

The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has urged the national leadership of the party to utilize the appropriate provisions of the PDP Constitution to revoke the membership of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In spite of the current internal difficulties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is preparing to introduce a strong candidate to contest against Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo in its postponed governorship primary scheduled for tomorrow.

Following the CP-PDP’s weekly technical review meeting in Abuja yesterday, Protem National Coordinator Obinna Nwachukwu stated that Wike’s public endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) “undermines the PDP and contravenes the party’s constitution.”

He remarked: “The FCT minister has openly allied himself with the APC to support their campaign for the 2026 FCT Council election and the 2027 Presidential election, which directly violates Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended), prohibiting members from collaborating with other parties to weaken the PDP.”

Nwachukwu emphasized that Wike’s actions have effectively forfeited his membership in the PDP, and he should no longer be acknowledged as a member of the party. He further accused Wike of repeatedly breaching Section 58 of the PDP Constitution through his public criticisms of the party and its leadership.

The CP-PDP has called on the National Working Committee (NWC) to promptly invoke Sections 29(2)(b) and 59(1) to expel Wike from the party, cautioning that the ongoing tolerance of his behavior “is detrimental” to the unity and integrity of the PDP.

Nwachukwu added: “The delay in expelling Wike is now a source of frustration for loyal party members. The NWC must take decisive action.”

The group also instructed all professionals within the PDP to cut political ties with Wike, reaffirming their dedication to the unity and stability of the party.

Governor Soludo, who is vying for a second term, will represent the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Meanwhile, the Labour Party (LP) has selected Dr. George Moghalu, the former Managing Director of NIWA, as its candidate following the primary held on Saturday.

In the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nicholas Ukachukwu won the party’s primary, garnering 1,455 votes, significantly outpacing his nearest competitor, Valentine Ozigbo, who received 67 votes.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) faced delays in its primary due to internal conflicts between Sunday Udeh-Okoye and Senator Samuel Anyanwu regarding the National Secretary position. The primary, originally set for April 5, was postponed to April 8.

This uncertainty led many potential candidates to refrain from acquiring nomination forms, as they were concerned about potential issues with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not recognizing Udeh-Okoye’s signature.

Although the Supreme Court recently overturned lower court rulings that had removed Anyanwu from his position, this decision came after the deadline for submitting nomination forms to INEC, further limiting the party’s choices.

Timothy Osadolor, the PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, confirmed that only three candidates submitted their nomination forms two weeks ago. However, when reached for comment yesterday, the PDP’s national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, chose not to reveal their identities or provide insights into the party’s prospects in what appears to be a competitive race among APGA, APC, and LP.
