Kennedy Peretei, the Publicity Secretary of the Ondo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has announced his resignation from the party. He made this announcement through a statement released in Akure, the state capital.
In his statement, titled “I Quit As The PDP In Ondo State Leaves The Intensive-Care Unit For The Morgue,” Peretei expressed his belief that those who consider themselves the party’s leaders have no genuine intention of winning elections, either now or in the future.
He stated, “It is challenging to collaborate with individuals whose sole interests revolve around themselves and their ability to exploit the party for electoral gains every election cycle.”
Peretei further elaborated on his decision to leave the PDP, asserting that the current leadership lacks any ambition to secure electoral victories. He reflected on his contributions to the party, noting that the leadership has led to its decline.
“I had the honor of serving as the State Financial Secretary of the PDP during its early years (1999-2003) and again as State Publicity Secretary from 2020 to the present. I have made significant contributions at every level. However, the same individuals who have effectively held the party hostage have made it impossible to win elections over the last three cycles. The PDP in Ondo State is now on a path toward demise,” he remarked.
He also advised those reliant on election funding and party patronage for their livelihoods to seek alternative means of support, encouraging them to pursue more meaningful lives rather than remaining as political opportunists or mere followers.
In response, the PDP in Ondo State acknowledged Peretei’s right to choose his affiliations but condemned his allegations as “vulgar” and a “desecration of the PDP.”
