The Peoples Democratic Party in Jigawa State has elected into office a new leadership as Babandi Gumel emerged as the newly elected chairman.

The election which held on Saturday at Malam Aminu Kano Triangle in Dutse, the state capital, saw the emergence of 39 new executive members. Party delegates, stakeholders, and supporters from all 27 Local Government Areas of the state were in attendance.

Gumel, a familiar figure in the state’s political landscape, previously served as PDP chairman before stepping down to become the running mate to Mustapha Lamido, the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections.

The election was conducted under the supervision of a committee from the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, led by Isa Ahmad.

Most positions were filled unopposed, reflecting what observers described as internal consensus and party cohesion.

Announcing the outcome, Ahmad declared “Gumel as the new state chairman, with Umar Danjani elected as his deputy. Other officials include Muhammad Bahutu as State Secretary, Kabiru Kazaure as State Organizing Secretary, Ali Muhammad as State Youth Leader, and Umar Kyari as Publicity Secretary.

Also elected were Murja Garki as Women Leader, Isyaku Maruta as Legal Adviser, Babangida Roni as Financial Secretary, Alhassan Babandi as Treasurer, and Ali Badala as State Auditor, among others.

“The elected officials will serve for the next three years, and their emergence is expected to bring new energy and dynamism to the party in Jigawa State,” Ahmad stated.

In his acceptance speech, Gumel pledged to rebuild and reposition the party for future success.

“We will ensure that our party is united and focused on delivering good governance to the people of Jigawa,” he said.

Calling for reconciliation and collective action, Gumel added, “We need to work together to build a strong and vibrant party that can challenge the ruling party in the state.”

He assured party members of an inclusive leadership approach.

“We will work tirelessly to ensure that our party is the best it can be, and we will not rest until we achieve our goals.”

Reaffirming the party’s ambitions, the new chairman said, “We are committed to working hard to ensure that our party emerges victorious in future elections.”

He also promised broad consultations and strategic planning.

“We will work with all stakeholders to build a strong and united party,” he emphasized.

“We are confident that with our team, we can achieve great things for our party and the people of Jigawa.”
