The Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro, has refuted claims of an impending internal disintegration within the party. It emphasized that the PDP remains robust and united in the face of recent adversities. During a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja, Moro countered the narrative suggesting that the PDP was fragmented and on the brink of collapse, asserting that the party is actually growing stronger.
He acknowledged the presence of internal disagreements but affirmed that these issues are being effectively managed. Moro pointed out that conflicts are common in any political party and urged members to stay committed and loyal to the PDP. Furthermore, he criticized what he termed the premature celebration of a shift towards a one-party system, cautioning that such a development threatens Nigeria’s democratic framework. As the leading opposition party, the PDP is sufficiently strong to welcome all parties interested in forming a coalition. We are a revitalized and dynamic party with a presence across the nation, and we are open to collaboration with others to enhance democratic principles. Moro stated, ‘The PDP should take the lead in any coalition that may be necessary.’ Expressing confidence in the party’s future, Moro commended the reconciliation committee chaired by former Senate President Bukola Saraki for its ability to resolve ongoing internal conflicts.
‘We are addressing the few discrepancies that exist at the national level,’ the senator remarked. He also indicated that the PDP is poised to be as competitive as ever in the near future.
