The Oyo State Government has sanctioned an additional set of road projects valued at over N113 billion, which will be financed through the N300 billion loan recently authorized by the House of Assembly.
As stated by the state Commissioner for Works and Public Transport, Arc. Mojeed Mogbonjubola, these approvals were granted during the weekly State Executive Council meeting held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a briefing to journalists on Tuesday, shortly after the meeting, Mogbonjubola indicated that the new approvals encompass both new and ongoing projects throughout various regions of the state.
The commissioner detailed the approved road projects and their associated costs, which include the Asphaltic Reconstruction/Rehabilitation of 13.6km Ojoo Interchange-IITA-Moniya Junction Akinyele Interchange, with Spurs to New Oyo Expressway, Ibadan, at a cost of N63,611,154,690.82K.
Additionally, the Continuity of Thermoplastic road marking, kerbs painting, and limited patching on state roads within the Ibadan metropolis will be executed through direct labour intervention by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, amounting to N444,796,631.50. The first tranche, according to the Commissioner, covers the area from SDP-All Motors and Airport Road, including its adjoining roads.
Furthermore, the dualisation of the 6.2km Ajia Junction (Ibadan/Ife Interchange) to Nigeria Air Force Base Road has also been approved at a cost of N17,187,255,757.07k.
Moreover, the approved projects include the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Okaka Junction – Otu Igbojaye – KAP Village Road (30km) and the construction of bridges over the Otu and Ofiki rivers, with a total cost of N26,482,664,312.33k.
The Council has approved the expansion of the scope of work for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Apete – Awotan -Akufo Road (12km) and the rigid pavement construction of the Akufo Farm Settlement Road (2.2km) at a total cost of N1,935,629,520.32K.
Additionally, the asphaltic construction of the Isaba-Ogundoyin Road in Eruwa (0.75km) and the Lanlate Garage Junction – Local Government Junction – Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Oke Ola Junction Road in Eruwa (1.90km) has also been approved, amounting to N4,146,068,573.56K.
Furthermore, the government has sanctioned the planting of economic trees along both sides of the 32km Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Circular Road (Phase 1) at a cost of N108,044,103.50K.
Mogbonjubola also revealed that the Council, during the meeting, approved the allocation of N110 million for the camping and hosting of the Under-20 Female National Football Team in preparation for the Women’s World Cup Qualifying match between Nigeria and Rwanda in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He assured that the approved projects are expected to be completed within the next 12 to 18 months, which will contribute to enhancing the socio-economic investment of the state.
The state Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, while reaffirming the state’s commitment to fostering enduring legacies, stated that funding has been allocated for the planting of 35,000 tree seedlings around the Tech-U Junction-Badeku Area of the first segment of the Ibadan Circular Road to improve oxygenation and enhance the environmental aesthetics of the road.
