The Presidential Coalition Committee (PCC), Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called upon its members and eligible residents to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that “without a PVC, you have no voice.”
This appeal coincided with a request from Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, urging Nigerian youth to take the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) exercise seriously, as he highlighted the importance of the voter card for political engagement and national progress.
The PCC made this appeal on Saturday at the Police College Grounds in Ikeja, where over 40,000 street captains were inaugurated across the state to encourage at least five residents each to register and collect their PVCs.
During the event, the PCC State Coordinator and member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. James Faleke, stated that the purpose of the gathering was to empower the street captains to enhance voter participation.
“Today is a very significant day because we are not here for campaigning, but to inaugurate you, the street captains, and to encourage you to go out into your neighborhoods and reach out to those who have not yet registered. Urge them to register and collect their PVCs; that is the main goal,” Faleke remarked.
He urged the captains to mobilize efforts from house to house, adding, “Without a PVC, you cannot express your opinion.” The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Kolade David Alabi, characterized the initiative as part of a larger mission to reconnect governance with the populace and to fortify democracy at the grassroots level.
SPEAKING at a grand reception in Calabar organized by the Cross River State Political Network (CRISPON) to celebrate his 66th birthday, Governor Bassey Otu stated that Nigeria’s economic planning and resource distribution rely on numerical data obtained from voter registration and census statistics.
“The Continuous Voters’ Registration deserves our utmost attention, as the economic planning of the country significantly relies on numerical strength,” he stated. “We must seize this opportunity to advance our state and nation forward.”
Otu, along with senior aides, expressed gratitude to CRISPON for its support and assured that his administration would soon implement a social safety net program aimed at benefiting the youth throughout the state.
He encouraged young individuals to prepare for active civic engagement, indicating that some upcoming government initiatives would necessitate valid voter cards as evidence of citizenship.
CRISPON Director-General, Dr. Prince Michael Abuo, characterized Otu as a leader focused on the people, whose policies are enhancing lives, and urged him to maintain the momentum of development.
