The coalition of opposition lawmakers has commended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the dismissal of Senator Samuel Anyanwu from his position as National Secretary and the appointment of Hon. Setonji Koshoedo as the acting National Secretary.
In a statement released on Monday by the group’s spokesperson, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the lawmakers characterized the NWC’s decision as a significant measure that rectifies what they termed the ‘blatant imposition’ of Anyanwu, despite a judicial ruling that had already removed him from his role. Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato in the House of Representatives and is a prominent PDP figure in Imo State, also called for the immediate expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Senator Anyanwu from the party.
‘We were thrilled to learn of the National Working Committee’s (NWC) decision to endorse Arch. Setonji Koshoedo as the new National Secretary of the party, thus officially terminating Anyanwu’s tenure, which had already been nullified by the court,’ Ugochinyere stated.
He praised the PDP leadership for what he referred to as ‘a courageous decision’ to appoint Koshoedo, who previously held the position of Deputy National Secretary. Ugochinyere noted that Koshoedo will serve in an acting capacity until the Southeast zone nominates Rt. Hon. Udo Okoye as the permanent National Secretary.
‘This courageous decision is one of the critical actions we have been advocating for to assist in steering the PDP towards recovery,’ he remarked. He also urged the NWC to implement the recommendations put forth by the disciplinary committee led by Chief Tom Ikimi, which allegedly suggested penalties for party members accused of undermining its interests.
The National Working Committee (NWC) must demonstrate the courage to formally endorse the Ikimi disciplinary report and remove those traitors who have pledged to undermine the party due to their avaricious political maneuvers supported by Abuja’s land schemes,” he remarked.
Ugochinyere commended the NWC for its efforts to reinstate internal democracy and encouraged the party’s leadership to take further action by distancing themselves from individuals he accused of attempting to dismantle the PDP from within. “We commend the NWC and implore them to take additional measures to regain the confidence of Nigerians — ensuring that the troubling era of Anyanwu and his benefactors, particularly Nyesom Wike, is eradicated. Their removal is imperative,” he asserted.
