The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has communicated concern over successive event of crimes, particularly kidnapping, in the country today.
The previous Anambra State lead representative said that nobody is currently spared from the perilous wind of numerous kidnappings and killings blowing through many parts of the country today.
He expressed this in a post on his social media, underscoring that this intensity of insecurity which has continued to affect every aspect of our nation where critical workers are frequently hijacked or killed.
“The frequent occurrence of crimes, especially kidnapping, in the country today is worrisome, and it’s causing a lot of apprehension in the land. Today, no one is currently spared from the dangerous wind of many kidnappings and killings blowing through many parts of the nation.
“Every Nigerian experiences the intensity of insecurity, which has continued to affect every aspect of our nation, from the agricultural sector, where farmers are often chased out of their farmlands, to the health and educational sectors, where critical workers are often kidnapped or killed.
“This is exemplified by the steady abducting and, sometimes, killing of our farmers, teachers and lecturers in different schools and universities. As of late, the Manager of College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala, was killed. Recently, 2 Reverend Sisters, one a Principal and other a teacher who work in our different schools in Anambra state were again abducted.
“These are people contributing colossally to our national development through their sacrifices in farms, educational and health facilities in different remote villages,” the post read to some degree.
As indicated by Obi, nothing legitimizes kidnapping, killings, as well as those of numerous Nigerians who suffer the same fate daily.
He noted that this troubling situation continues to demand urgent attention from all the leaders in the country.
He thought about the number of instances of abduction and killings go unreported if the reported ones are this much.
The Labour Party leader appealed to the government to employ every security arsenal at its disposal to end this threat and guarantee the safe rescue of those in captivity.
“Furthermore, to the criminals terrorizing our people, I encourage them to have a change of heart and desist from their evil ways. We must not burn down our only nation with terror and viciousness,” he added.
