The Chief Executive of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, criticized the financial policies of the Federal Government, asserting they are forcing extreme difficulty on Nigerians.
He communicated this during a meeting of the National Reconciliation Committee (NRC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with Lead Representatives from the North East and other key stakeholders in Bauchi. Attending the meeting were the State Chief Executives of Bauchi and Taraba, as well as the acting PDP National Chairman.
Fintiri communicated disappointment with the state of the country’s economy, stating: “Nigeria is bleeding, we are suffering, there is too much anger, and the economic policy is not working. That is why we always call on the Federal Government to reconsider some of these economic policies that are only putting hardship on Nigerians.”
He further underscored that standing firm on a footing of force is a privilege given by God, and consequently, the nation must be governed in the light of trust and responsibility.
The Chief Executive urged the Federal Government to zero in on policies that do not bring further pain to Nigerians, adding: “Whatever will make us cry must not be part of your policy because the country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community,” he said.
In his comments on party unity, Fintiri guaranteed that the three State Chief Executives from the North-East would team up to strengthen the PDP in the region.
The Chief Executive likewise highlighted the significance of unity in the region, which he perceives added to the party’s victory in all states of the region during the last presidential poll.
“There is no state in the zone that PDP lost. Even the one we lost in Borno, up until now, we are still wondering how we lost that election because we know we did not lose that election in Borno,” he said.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee (NRC), Olagunsoye Oyinlola, recognized the variables that led to the party’s loss in the last poll.
He highlighted disunity within the party as a major reason and communicated the committee’s commitment to resolving these issues.
“We are here to interact with our leadership and membership of our great party so that we can discuss where we are falling short of what we were supposed to do, which led to the outcome we witnessed,” Oyinlola said.
