Barrister Julius Abure is under investigation by the Labour Party’s caretaker committee, which is headed by Senator Nenadi Usman.
The allegations include anti-party activity, corruption, and misappropriation of party funds.
During a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Senator Usman charged Abure with continuing to pose as the party’s national chairman even after being ousted and with using the Labour Party as a personal business to further his own interests.
According to her, Abure allegedly took advantage of his position for personal gain rather than promoting togetherness. A disciplinary panel led by Senator Ireti Kingibe and secretary Peter Ameh has been established by the caretaker committee to address these accusations.
The panel’s job is to look into the accusations made against Abure and suggest suitable disciplinary actions. On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Senator Nenadi Usman, the chairman of the Labour Party caretaker committee, spoke at a press conference in Abuja.
Abure has been called before the disciplinary panel by the committee to address a number of petitions and accusations made against him.
The caretaker committee also denounced Abure for allegedly taking over party institutions without following the proper procedures, such as holding zonal, state, ward, and local government congresses before a national convention.
The committee led by Nenadi Usman promised to bring back internal democracy and said they would soon provide a schedule for holding appropriate congresses and electing national executives.
This is coming a few days after the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party set up a disciplinary committee to look into claims of anti-party activity against Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, and other party members.
According to the statement, “NEC established a disciplinary committee after reviewing the anti-party acts of Abia State Governor Alex Otti” and other dissident members.
Ayo Olorunfemi, the committee’s chair, was given two weeks to turn in its findings.
