The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using money, political appointments and other incentives to lure some of its candidates into defecting ahead of the 2027 elections.
The NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, made the allegation in a statement, describing the defectors as people who lacked commitment to the party’s values and ideology.
The party said it would not be distracted by the defections, insisting that those who left were not genuinely committed to its political mission.
“They were never truly of us. To them, we say good riddance to bad rubbish, and we wish them luck in their political misadventures,” the statement said.
The NDC further alleged that the APC was employing desperate tactics to weaken the opposition by offering financial and political benefits to its candidates.
It said it would conduct fresh congresses to select replacement candidates in the affected constituencies, citing provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The party also urged its members, supporters and Nigerians not to be discouraged by the defections, claiming that it remained focused on its goal of delivering good governance, security and prosperity.
