More Airstrikes on Nigerian Terrorists Ahead – US Lawmaker Moore

For many Nigerians, Moore’s comments will provoke mixed reactions: relief on one hand and deep unease on the other. While communities terrorized by insurgents may welcome any intervention that promises immediate security, there is widespread discomfort with the framing of Nigeria’s complex security crisis through a narrow religious lens.

Many citizens worry that portraying the violence solely as a war against Christians risks oversimplifying a conflict rooted in governance failure, poverty, land disputes, and weak state presence. To them, external military action may treat symptoms without addressing the disease.

This development also mirrors a growing national anxiety about sovereignty and perception. Nigerians are sensitive to how the country is portrayed internationally, especially when narratives suggest that foreign powers are stepping in because the state cannot protect its own people.

Even if coordinated with Abuja, continued U.S. airstrikes raise questions about ownership of Nigeria’s security challenges and whether reliance on external force could weaken long-term institutional capacity. For many, the concern is not just about bombs in the air but about what it says regarding trust in Nigeria’s military and political leadership.

What Nigerians increasingly want is a security strategy that is decisive, inclusive, and locally driven. External support, intelligence sharing, and limited cooperation can be helpful, but they cannot substitute for rebuilding trust between the state and its citizens.

The recommendation is clear: the Nigerian government must lead transparently, communicate honestly about partnerships, and invest heavily in addressing the root causes of violence from justice and policing to economic opportunity and reconciliation. Without this, even the most powerful airstrikes may offer only temporary relief, while the deeper crisis continues to fester.
