Former Ondo State State lead representative , Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has disbunked reports claiming he was appointed to lead former President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 presidential consultation team in the South-West, termed the publication as “a concocted rumour dressed in news.”
According to the report, which was published in a national newspaper, Jonathan nominated former Osun State State lead representative and current African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola to lead consultations before a potential political return.
Reacting in a statement issued in Akure by his former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, Mimiko categorically denied the claims, insisting he had neither been contacted nor appointed for any campaign assignment.
According to the statement, “the falsehood in the report is obvious from the get-go. It is just the work of a journalist flying with concocted rumour dressed as news.”
The former state lead representative emphasized that while he holds the former president in high esteem, he is not involved in any political consultations or mobilizations related to Jonathan in 2027.
“The Mimiko that I know respects former President Jonathan but has neither been reached nor appointed for a campaign that is still the subject and may well end as the subject of fanciful speculation. I am sure he is also not job-hunting,” Akinsola continued.
The statement also warned the public not to believe politically motivated lies, stating that as the nation’s political activities gather momentum, “such cooked stories will not be scarce, especially concerning political figures like Iroko who have chosen to remain low for now.”
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) veteran and former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, was cited as saying that Goodluck Jonathan would run for president in 2027, which sparked the debate.
Speaking to reporters after a PDP congress in Minna, Niger State, Gana reportedly said, “I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as the PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as president again.”
However, Mimiko clarified that he is not involved in any such action, stating that the report that connected him to Jonathan’s purported political discussions was completely untrue.
