Adedayo Ekong, the Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, stated yesterday that she has not been suspended from her position. In a statement issued in Lagos, Ekong characterized the claims of her alleged expulsion by a faction within the party as misleading and malicious. She asserted that those spreading the rumors of her removal are party renegades who were recently expelled for engaging in anti-party activities and are acting in defiance of a court ruling. The statement included the following points: ‘We firmly assert that the article is filled with intentional falsehoods and orchestrated misrepresentations designed to mislead the public and destabilize the Lagos State chapter of our esteemed party.
As the only legally recognized and duly affirmed Chairman of the Labour Party in Lagos State, I, Pastor (Dr) Mrs. Adédayo Ekong, wish to clarify that the so-called “suspensions” declared by a group of unauthorized individuals lack any legal or constitutional validity within the Labour Party. This group, led by Rotimi Odunaike, is an illegitimate faction currently in contempt of court and has consistently acted outside the party’s constitutional framework. Their declarations hold no authority and are not acknowledged by the national leadership of the party under Julius Abure. ‘The individuals claiming to be Labour Party officials in Lagos State are either expelled or suspended members who have themselves engaged in anti-party activities. Their attempts to issue suspensions are not only ironic but also null and void.
The public should recognize this as a desperate and well-funded effort to sow confusion and undermine the progress the Labour Party has achieved in Lagos State. ‘Our administration in Lagos State has consistently adhered to due process in party matters. Any necessary disciplinary actions are carried out in accordance with the party’s constitution and with the approval of the National Working Committee (NWC) – not through media propaganda or secretive meetings.
We urge our numerous members, supporters, and the general public to ignore any press release or publication that does not originate from the official channels of the Lagos State Labour Party leadership. Under my leadership, the Labour Party in Lagos is dedicated to upholding the values of transparency, inclusivity, discipline, and service to the community.
To those who are impersonating Labour Party officials and creating disturbances in the media, your actions amount to criminal impersonation and contempt. We will not hesitate to pursue all necessary legal actions to safeguard the integrity of the Labour Party and its leadership in Lagos.
